Zanele Muholi and Francesca de' Medici

Photo Vogue Festival 10th Edition 2026

Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan

Photography as Visual Activism brings together Zanele Muholi and Francesca de’ Medici to reflect on photography as a tool for visibility, resistance, and care. Centered on Muholi’s lifelong commitment to self-representation and community building, the conversation explores how images can challenge dominant narratives, affirm marginalized identities, and operate as acts of political and ethical responsibility. Moving between artistic practice, editorial contexts, and lived experience, the panel considers what it means to make images that do not merely represent, but actively intervene in the world.
With sincere gratitude to Alessia Glaviano, Head of Global Photo Vogue, Condé Nast and Zanele Muholi, visual activist, humanitarian and interdisciplinary artist.

"The book retraces my career and presents a wide selection of photographic documentation of my works and performances. It also includes contributions by brilliant writers and thinkers who have shared both personal and professional experiences with me. Reading their reflections on my research fills me with great joy."

“Time Will Tell is a project by Zanele Muholi and Robert Hamblin, two visual arts activists from South Africa, who have been fighting against race and gender discrimination for a long time. Their art provokes profound reflections on the subject of queerness, which today is more urgent and unavoidable than ever. Right now in Italy we need to give further strength to a movement for change through work of this nature.”

MICHAEL DAVIDSON

For several years Michael Davidson resided in European countries where he experienced historical and contemporary  paintings, initiating what would become an abiding commitment to the development of a personal approach. He now resides in Toronto, with artist wife Nicole Collins and actor daughter Matilda Davidson. Davidson’s work can be found many international collections. He has exhibited in London, New York, Los Angeles and Singapore. His paintings have been widely published and in the book ‘26’ (2007) where he refers his abstraction, as the factual language of the invisible.
